A Fun Night Out in Çanakkale, Turkey

After our visit to the ancient city of Troy and the WWI memorials of Gallipoli, we went on to seaside Çanakkale for a night.

Çanakkale is another pretty harbour-side city, which feels somehow more modern than most of the places we had visited. Although we didn’t spend too long there (we mainly visited to go see nearby Troy and Gallipoli), we did end up having a really fun evening after our busy day of sightseeing.

This was the last official night of our tour, so the entire group met together to have our celebratory dinner, to reminisce about our two weeks traveling together and to exchange gifts. Earlier in the trip, my friend Ryan came up with the idea to do a secret santa-style gift exchange with everyone; the only rule was, the gift needed to be the tackiest souvenir of Turkey we could find! Needless to say, the gift exchange was hilarious, and it all happened in a cozy seaside restaurant where we had a yummy seafood meal accompanied by music from a live band.

For the dinner, everyone in the group also chipped in to buy both our guide Ilyas and our driver some ‘thank you’ gifts for putting up with our shenanigans over the previous two weeks!

Çanakkale has a thriving student population, so the atmosphere is fun and lively, so half of our group went out after dinner to check out the nightlife. We ended up finding a funky karaoke bar, and we had a great time drinking copious amounts of Efes beers and making fools of ourselves singing at the bar, until the early hours in the morning.

All my photos at the bar look like this... and this is how I remember the last part of the night, after my share of Efes beers!

We had a really fun night full of laughs in Çanakkale, and it was nice to have one last dinner with the entire group before returning to Istanbul for the end of our Journey together.
