Living the Dream in Playa Blanca, Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo

The dual city resort of Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo is truly little piece of paradise and one of my favourite places in Mexico. I’ve visited this part of the world many times over the last decade, and every single time I visit I end up having a new experience. During my latest visit this past December, I discovered the stunning Hotel Villas Las Palmas on breathtaking Playa Blanca, located a quick 10 minute ride from the international airport.

HOTEL VILLAS LAS PALMAS, PLAYA BLANCA
If you haven’t been to Playa Blanca, I highly recommend it. Compared to any of the beaches in Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo, Playa Blanca, which translates to “white beach”, is longer and wider, and more importantly, much less crowded – even during high season! You can walk along the ocean for over 16 kilometers and at many points find yourself completely on your own, surrounded only by nature. Often, you will get the opportunity to see a pod of dolphins jumping in the ocean (especially magical at sunset!), and if you’re lucky, you might even see a whale waving at you with its tail from the distance.

What I was greeted with at Las Palmas is spectacular ocean-facing suites, meticulously landscaped gardens, refreshing infinity pools, and a gorgeous beach club complete with a beachside restaurant. The 31 suites on site are privately owned and rented out as hotel suites on behalf of the owners when they are not occupying them. Visitors who are not guests can also go to the beach club for the day to enjoy lunch, drinks and lounging. With the restaurant serving imaginative meals by one of the most innovative chefs in Zihuatanejo, you’re sure to enjoy your visit!

MAREA
Now, 500 metres down the beach from Las Palmas, a second development called MAREA offers an incredible opportunity to own a piece of Playa Blanca. I decided to check out the new development and was blown away by it. So far, two of the proposed five low-rise buildings are complete; yet, I could already feel how amazing MAREA will be. The five buildings each contain only 5 personal suites: two 2-bedroom suites, two three-bedroom suites, and a 4-bedroom penthouse taking over the entire top floor of each building. All suites have outstanding views of the ocean from the master bedrooms and living areas, and each has a large terrace, complete with an amazing dip pool! The 2, 3 and 4 bedroom condos are selling for a cool USD $320 – $550, and the property will manage rentals for your convenience the same way that Hotel Villas Las Palmas does.

MAREA development - Condos

The condos at MAREA are just now being finished, but its easy to see how amazing the final product will be!

MAREA’s new beach club, which includes a 25 meter infinity pool (for those moments when your personal dip-pool simply isn’t enough) as well as a full-service restaurant/bar, will open in March 2017. Future plans will see MAREA develop into a destination on its own, with further beachfront condominiums, villas and standalone homes, along with a small village complete with a market, a bakery, an organic farm, a farm-to-table restaurant, and a medical office.

Imagine being able to visit Playa Blanca at your leisure with your family or a group of friends, and staying at your very own luxury home; going out for a morning walk along the beach, with the breeze off the Pacific Ocean; enjoying a meal in your personal outdoor dining room; or having a glass of wine in your refreshing dip pool, watching as the sun sets into the sea – a dream come true for many of us!

If you are looking for something more adventurous, you’ll also have the opportunity to walk over to the lush fresh-water lagoon at the back of the property, a wildlife sanctuary that you can explore by kayak. And to get your fix of the charming town life and the lovely restaurants of Zihuatanejo, you are only 15 minutes away from the town center. All in all, the perfect getaway!
